Delivery from catchment to storage

Several types of delivery system exist for transporting water from the catchment to the storage reservoir, including gutters, glides, and surface drains or channels.

Gutters as the most crucial part of the delivery system are often the weak link in any rainwater catchment system; they must be appropiately sized, properly erected around the whole roof area, and fitted with splash-guards if necessary to prevent overshooting (where the water running off the roof is not all collected in the gutter).

Proper construction of gutters is essential and these must slope evenly towards the tank. For long roofs, hanging V-shaped gutters with splashguards are useful for reducing any loss due to runoff by over-shooting.
